Work and play
Every week there comes a day when, while on the dining table, I have to be criticized at. Yeah, its for my betterment and for my future too..but its not a really good feeling when you are trying to enjoy your chicken pizza. My parents have always told me about the importance of newspapers. That keeping yourself updated about the current happenings around the world is important. To add more to my misery, our school has this 5 marker along with every exam which is about current affairs. ( Don’t even ask my marks.) Well, I admit it. I don’t like reading the newspaper. Who cares what’s happening somewhere in the world when I don’t even have a hold on my own life? I may read particular articles which are inspirational or motivation but news? Nah.
I would like to ask my readers, Do you know the difference between Work and play? They may seem like two contradictory words but not so. Work can be defined in many ways. In science – work is equal to force into distance displaced. Play is fun into..?One can also say that play is about doing something physically. Work is about using your brain cells. But that’s where we go wrong, my friend. Let us take an example. A chess player plays chess. ( Can it be more obvious? ) Now one will say that this activity is Play. But then how about a international chess player? Isn’t he doing it for money? Or does he do it because its fun and he earns by doing it? Take an everyday example of a nerd. We all have that preconceived notion that he works. He studies. Does he not like fun? Have you ever thought that maybe him studying is ‘play’ for him? Take me. I feel like its work for me to read newspapers. Give me a 1000 page novel and tell me to read it in one sitting ( Given the time- which I don’t have) I’ll do it. Now is that work for me or play?
What I am trying to tell you all is that there is a very, very thin line between what’s work and what’s play. A nerd, treats his studying like play. Any other person however, takes it as work. If we try to make our work play, life will be a lot easier. This brings in the fact that no two individuals are the same. That means, if I will make reading newspapers seem like play, it won’t be like work for me. We have not been given this demarcation from the gods above. We have made it ourselves. Then don’t we have the power to change it too? Can’t we?
I have so put a new twist to this statement- All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Hey Jack, make your work your play , buddy.
