Love at first sight.
“He was standing across the platform. The place was crowded so I couldn’t see him properly. The oncoming train completely blocked my view. When it finally left, he was the only one standing on the other side of the platform. He didn’t board the train. Neither did I. He smiled and I did too. I knew, oh then I knew, that it was love at first sight. ”
Now hold on a minute. If anyone here thought that this was going to be some mushy tale of how 2 people fell in love when they saw each other for the first time.. I am sorry to disappoint you. Heartfelt condolences to those romantics out there. This phrase : Love at first sight has always seemed to amaze me. Whenever I hear couples talking about how they met and knew they were meant to be together when they saw each other for the first time makes me laugh at them. Appreciating the fact that they are together, I am sorry but it’s plain crazy. Maybe I seem the crazy one right now. But wait.
When you look at someone for the first time, did you figure out how that person was from the inside? Did you know about all the times he would make you happy? Or the times he would make you cry? Or the kind of family and friends he had? Were you having a series of epiphanies about that person? And was it déjà vu all over again for you? Then you are plain psychic, or I am plain crazy. Loving someone means accepting that person despite all his faults and cracks.
Then when you didn’t even have the slightest idea about that person, how did you fall in love with them?
Then they say never to look at the outside appearance of a person. That there is more to the person than you see. They say that you never judge and that no matter how the person is outside, inside everyone is beautiful. Then please explain to me, how did you fall in love with the person when you just saw him on the exterior? Did you get a sneak peak because of your amazing superpowers? I don’t think so.
Lastly, this is something most people don’t believe in , but it’s pure science. Although looks and nature play a part along with a number of factors, it’s our unique smell which attracts us humans to each other. That however, does not mean that we go up to a person, ‘smell’ her, and say “Oh! This is the person I will fall in love with.” It means that all of us have different pheromones which attract us to each other. This same logic applies to many animals and it is this logic that ants use. If you have been observant enough, ants use their own pheromones to leave a trail from their source of food to their homes, so that they don’t lose their way. If you wipe this line away (Although you can’t see it) then ants lose their way and you see them moving here and there, completely lost, completely alone. This means that people who fall in love at first sight.. well you know what I am saying.
I am not mocking you couples, I am not saying that you are crazy. All I am saying whether you met the person by looking at the person for the first time and then fell in love, or you met through weird circumstances, or you were psychic enough to know which person you were going to love , or you never met the person and were told that you are going to spend the rest of your life together, it doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t matter how you met the person. What matters is that in the end whether that person will be there with you. We all need someone as a companion in our life, in any form necessary. We are, after all, social animals. So being there for a person is the best form of happiness. If you have that person, you are very lucky. If you don’t then that person is either stuck somewhere and you both will find your way back to each other. Sometimes, it is that kind of happiness that fills you up with nostalgia. So don’t feel bad if you don’t have an amazing story to tell at parties. If the person is there with you till the end, that will be the best love of all.
