Story: Letting it all out
“Oh my god.” Ragunvansham Chaturvedi thought to himself. Here he was, sitting in the conference room with all the other members on board. It was The Day. The time when, the firm he was working for finally was able to set up a meeting with the best of them all. The powerful one. The company which the firm was trying to get a hold of for at least 3 long years. He remembered sitting in the conference room when one week back Mr. Daruwalla, his boss, announced to everyone about this very meeting. How the entire office broke into applause. Some of the female lawyers even started crying. And how Mr. Daruwalla himself came and congratulated him on their big win. He had been slogging day and night to gain that very promotion he has been wanting for 2 years now. With his sister being married off, and his parents pressuring him to find a new girl, life seemed frustrating. This meeting and then the hopeful promotion could be the break he wanted.
But now, seeing all 14 in the room, eventually go onto him. He wiped his brow and realised that he had been sweating profusely even with 3 AC’s blasting in the huge room. He looked around and saw 7 members of the Red Builders and Co. and another 6 of the company, along with Mr. Daruwalla talking about the presentation which was made by him, not forgetting the help he got yesterday night from 4 cups of strong coffee. Knowing he was in a bad situation, he thought to himself,” Ah, I can’t do this anymore. Everyone is here. I can’t even excuse myself and let it all out. I should have let it all out a long time back. Are you so stupid, Raghu? You should have thought before holding it in. Didn’t you read it on that website which helped you out? On how letting it all out helps? Eases tension and..” he nodded as one of his colleagues broke into his thoughts. Thinking to himself again, he wondered,” How long will this go on? I have given my speech right? So, I can excuse myself? Nahi, Nahi, pange par jayenge. I should have just quietly done it. No problems later on. I could have let it all out when Maa and Didi were in the dining room. They wouldn’t have even paid much attention I guess.. BUT I ONLY HAD TO LET IT OUT RIGHT? How could I have been so stupid?”
All of sudden, he heard Mr. Daruwalla said,” And now I would like to welcome Mr. Ragunvansham Chaturvedi to explain to us the plan of action for the year 2015-16.” All eyes looked at him expectantly. He knew if he stood up it would have created problems.” Aree Nahi nahi, you should have taken more of that biscuit and water. So less you took. Why? WHY? You idiot, now, it’s becoming easy for you to let out. And do you even want that?” he thought to himself.
Nevertheless he got up slowly, knowing he had to do only one thing: Not let it out and just talk what he learnt last night. He went up to the podium. As soon as he greeted everyone, he knew he had done what he wasn’t supposed to. He was sure everyone heard that noise. And the smell that came later on. He squirmed uneasily. “Damn that Chicken Biryani!” he thought ate last night!
“Uh.. Did someone fart?” said the head of Red Builders and Co. Mr Daruwalla glared at him.
Right, letting it all out helped so much.
