Wait..what is that? Well, an entrepreneur, as per Oxford dictionary, is a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of some profit. In more abstract terms, a person who jumps down a cliff and either falls down to the ravine below or builds a plane which takes him high and saves him. And such people in India have been growing in leaps and bounds.. But why is that so? Here are the 8 reasons.
1. It gives you the freedom that Indians sometimes never have when it comes to life decisions.
Some Indian students, as we know how the cliché goes, rarely have a choice when it comes on knowing what to do in life. Even if they do, they will always have free advice from practically every being on Earth. Be it what stream to take in 12th, what kind of course to pursue during under graduation, where to go, whether to do post graduation or sometimes even who to marry. Having your own start-up gives you that sense of freedom and belonging, where you can do anything without having to take permission for it. You may get advice from people, but that will be rare. Because when it comes to your own startup, you are ‘da bawse’.
2. Modiji supports it.
India has the third largest number of startups globally. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, recognized this and officially inaugurated the Startup India Action Plan announcement, which has dozens of policy innovations to foster more creative startups.
What more you need than the most powerful Indian to support and fuel your passion?
- You can start a startup anytime during your life.
Whether you are 16 or 56, you can always indulge yourself in entrepreneurship. It is all about what you want to do in life.
4. Entrepreneurship is a cool word: Neither you know how to pronounce it nor are you always sure about the correct spelling!
Sometimes you don’t even know if it is the actual meaning, but you have to love what it is. What if some nosy aunty asks you,”Beta, what do you do for a living?” “Aunty, I am an entrepreneur.” *She has absolutely no clue what you just said*
5. Entrepreneurship can never get boring.
Building up a startup is seriously the best roller-coaster ride you will ever have in your life. There are the dark sides to entrepreneurship and there are moments where you feel more alive than ever. You get to meet new people, network and interact with them. You are forced to get out of your comfort zone and try things you have never tried before. With all this going on, how can startups ever get mundane for you?
5. You don’t have to be the three powerpuff girls of India: Lawyer, doctor or engineer!
That’s right! If any of these three occupations don’t work out for you, you can simply turn to entrepreneurship. You just need an amazing idea and the right targeted audience for that. Later, you can even boast in front of yours kids that you were never those three boring, sad and depressing people, but someone who had his own start-up!
7….and then there are the economical reasons.
Startups in the long run seem to be bring gains and profits to any economy. Some of them are:
- It leads to employment generation. Startups aren’t a one-man army thing. You need to form a team and recruit people. That leads to surplus jobs for individuals.
- It gives strength to small scale businesses. It improves their technology and increases profits when they partner up with startups.
- It leads to an overall boost in GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
8. And if you fail..
You won’t regret it! Why? You did it because you followed your passion and dream to do something you have always wanted. So what if it did not work? Many entrepreneurs’ first startup fails. But they do try again and again to do what they really want in life. And if you can’t find any door towards your opportunity, make one and build the staircase instead of taking the lift. Everything will fall right into place.
All in all, keep calm and hire yourself. *bows*
